- Multiple possible challenges during central line insertion are modeled in this mannequin. Vessel angulation, branching, tortuous veins, various depth and diameters, proximity to artery, vein-under-artery, presence of clot and dissection are simulated in our model. These are in addition to the anatomical normal internal and external jugular veins and arteries.

- Skin motion over the soft tissue: a more natural procedure:
American Bionic phantoms have integrated skin that is designed to simulate the skin-needle interaction as well as the skin wrinkling, and skin motion over the tissue. Skin motion over the tissue is one of the challenges faced during cannulation, especially in the thin elderly. You can decrease the skin wrinkling by adding extra blood fluid or increase the wrinkling by adding less fluid (simulated dehydaration). While adding the skin layer increases the complexity of phantom design and price of the phantom, it brings realistic needle-tissue and dilator-tissue interaction, which is a huge advantage during training.

Vessel layers are made of arrays of polymer filaments, not silicon or plastic tubes.
